 I have been exceptionally busy at work recently, and it will only get worse over the next two weeks as I face a major deadline. I have had little time to get out and shoot pictures or to prepare ones I have for this site. They added a "Randomizer" to Photoblog.Org that I discovered today. It's like the Photoblog Ring but better because we don't have to belong to anything special to get in it. With nearly 12,000 photoblogs listed at photoblog.org, it takes a lot to get noticed. Which is why sometimes it is truly amazing that we EVER find the sites that truly tickle us the right way. I kept hitting the randomizer buton on my tool bar and I would say less than 1 in 10 sites caught my attention for more than a few seconds. So you see, that's about how long we have to grab someone's attention -- 1, maybe 2 or 3 seconds. That makes me wonder about the "meaning" when I find, as a did a few days ago, a photoblog that just stopped me in my tracks! I have returned time after time. The pictures are well done. The site is well designed. But there is so much more to it than that. I often hear people ask what the "story" is for a picture, but seldom do I hear one that convinces me. But this site really tells the story. This is the picture that grabbed me. But you have to read the text that goes with it. This wonderful combination of great photos with great language sets a new standard for my site. I no longer strive to grab multitudes of daily visits and pages loaded statistics. I want to find my eye in pictures and my voice in words. And bring them together on this site. The people that are meant to find them will. | |
