![]() For the past week, downtown Albany has been under a Hollywood siege. They are filming a car chase scene for an upcoming Will Ferrell movie (I think the name is 'the Other Guys' or something like that). I watched them shoot a scene the other night while I was in town and today I was down there again and they had most of the major roads blocked off for shooting. One thing the city likes to argue is that when these film crews come to town that they generate thousands (I believe for the last movie filmed here the numbers in in excess of $100,000) of dollars in revenues to city businesses from hotel rooms, restaurants, etc. So imagine my surprise to see that up on one of the back roads there is a truck that came up from Union NJ for the sole purpose of meeting the food needs of the 'movie industry.' Now of course, I do understand that these things do bring in big bucks and multiply many times over. But it is beyond comprehension that a film crew can arrive without more than a few days notice, totally disrupt traffic flow in the city, and all this for what is being said to be maybe as much as THREE MINUTES of the final movie! | |
