EXIF: SONY DSLR-A700 | 1/25 sec | f 9.0 | 180.0mm (35mm equivalent: 270.0mm) | ISO 100

I feel like I am biding my time photographically, waiting for some muse to drop into my life and wake me up. Does that ever happen to creative people? Or is art really like everything else in life? In other words, is it really all about 'work?'

As I come close to the end of my 6th decade I am continually surprised that there are still some pretty basic 'facts of life' left out there for me to learn. Hard work seems to be one of those recent revelations. Oh, no doubt, I have worked hard in the past...but never like I am now. And the more I think about it, it seems that success in any endeavor takes a level of commitment that I have more often than not been unwilling to make.

I have often classified myself as a 'lazy photographer.' I am in awe of the nature photographer willing to get up early to get to the right spot at the right time so he or she can sit still for hours in anticipation of the perfect shot. I am never willing to spend more than 10 or 15 minutes -- tops -- working on post processing an image. But sometimes sit in wonder before the work of a fellow blogger (like Diane Varner) who produces stunning images and, from seeing some of her tutorials, I know she must spend hours on some of them.

But I do have tenacity. I will plug away -- I mean -- forge ahead day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year shooting when I can, trying to see the world in my own unique way.
