Touring Old Iron Works
EXIF: SONY DSLR-A700 | 1/45 sec | f 11.0 | 20.0mm (35mm equivalent: 30.0mm) | ISO 100

This was part of the historical tour I went on last Sunday. Just a few of the 30-40 people that joined in a guided tour of the remains of the old Burden Iron Works in south Troy, NY. This particular feature is the remains of the sluice (or 'head race') that directed carefully controlled water from upstream on the Wynantskill to a water wheel a few hundred feet from this picture. The wheel was huge for the time, and while not the largest in the world, it did provide the most power of any such structure. There is a picture of the wheel in the Wikipedia article about the Burden Iron Works.
