![]() From the posts and comments I have seen around the photoblog world today it is clear that last night was not just about one country finding itself again, but indeed was a clear message to the world that the America once admired and looked up to may be back. I was reminded last night of my brief brush with the Obama campaign way back in March 2007. I was in Atlanta at the Hyatt for a conference. Coming back to the hotel in the early evening I couldn't help but notice the TV trucks and crowds. Surely not there for the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance meeting, I thought, so I went in search of the excitement. In the lobby were numerous young people with Obama signs, excited and thrilled that their candidate would soon pass through the lobby on his way to a fund raiser in one of the private rooms. I knew nothing of Obama and decided to ask a few questions. I spoke briefly with two young -- probably high school aged -- young women. One was clearly there for the fun of it (and who can blame her, really?) but the other was serious about her concerns for the world my generation was about to put in her generation's hands. She spoke quite honestly about her hopes with Obama and something of her excitement found its way to my heart as well. I didn't stick around to catch a glimpse of him walking through the lobby; but the thoughts planted by that young student grew within me as the campaign progressed. I couldn't help but wonder where she was last night as the announcement was made. | |
