![]() Yesterday, after our stop in Woodstock, NY to see the Center for Photography there (and wander the 'Hippie Theme Park' that little village has become -- in recognition of a famous concert named after the community but that actually took place in Bethel, maybe a hundred miles away), we went to see and photograph Opus 40. Described by one visitor as 'one of the largest and most beguiling works of art on the entire continent,' and “the greatest earthwork sculpture I have ever seen,” Opus 40 was the work of sculptor Harvey Fite and is now open to the public. I was not sure where to start. A photographer could literally spend days here, exploring shapes, textures, details, vistas, and much more. Just envisioning the changes in lighting throughout any given day would result in different mood for shots from a tripod. I'll probably post quite a few from here over the next week...hope you enjoy it. And by all means, if ever traveling up the NYS Thruway and you have some free time, get ouff at the Saugerties exit and find your way here, probably only about ten minutes off the highway. | |
