![]() Just returned from my work week in Texas. Work went well...photography had its ups and downs. My seats on planes were never good for photography, so I did nothing from the air. The area of Dallas where I was on Tuesday did not inspire me at all. Landing in Brownsville yesterday, however, showed me a landscape of grand interest. So when I finished my meetings and got checked into my hotel, I checked online and discovered that I was not far from the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. A short drive got me out in the countryside and soon I had found this rather amazing place. I was late arriving, but checked in with the visitors center, got a map, and learned the trails and roads were open until sunset, which gave me a few hours to explore. This was a wonderful escape from the hectic world of work travel that I had been on. It was quiet, calm, and for all it's starkness amazingly beautiful. The entire area had once been a part of the delta of the Rio Grande, though now largely abandoned by that overused river. Because of the lateness of my visit, I did not take any of the hiking trails but stuck to my car and the tour roads. More to come... | |
