![]() During the Cold War the borders were constantly monitored for the threat of attacking enemies. Shortly after World War II, a defensive perimeter of radar were built on platforms about 20 miles out at sea. The North Truro AFS was built to support one of those sea-based systems. Later, as radar technology improved, a land-based radar replaced the one at sea. It no longer serves to protect the nation, but the radar dome still survives and made for an interesting landscape as a heavy fog blew in off the ocean. | |
