Death's Head
EXIF: KONICA MINOLTA MAXXUM 5D | 1/160 sec | f 8.0 | 70.0mm (35mm equivalent: 105.0mm) | ISO 100

The Old North Cemetery is a bit too late to have any of the classic death's head or winged death stones that were so common in New England graveyards of the 17th century. Most of the death's head stones in this yard are of a more stylized form, and as we will see in tomorrow's post are already showing a distinct form that morphed into the Cherub of the later stones.

For a scholarly discussion of the importance of observing these features, please see the linked article, Death's Head, Cherub, Urn and Willow.
